Manus Academy offers transitional planning services for interested families and students from sixth through twelfth grade. The student, the family and a Manus Academy advisor form a team that meets during scheduled times to complete these tasks to help the student prepare for life after high school:
- identify the student’s talents, abilities and interests
- review the student’s learning strengths and weaknesses
- identify the student’s usual manner of responding to different people and events
- develop long-term career and personal goals
- develop then implement a plan to achieve these goals
Depending on the student’s needs, transitional plans may include:
- visits to college campuses
- meetings with college advisors or potential employers
- writing resumes and preparing for job interviews
- summer jobs and job coaching
- coaching in time management and other organizational skills
- coaching in independent living and social skills
