Everyday, when I drop my
daughter off at school, I know that she is happy
and learning and feels safe. Thank you.
D.C. – Manus Academy Parent
Manus Academy
is a very caring and nurturing place. Instead
of seeing a collection of problems to be fixed,
the staff accepts each student as an individual
endowed with his or her own special gifts.
S.L. - Manus Academy Parent
To the entire staff,
we want to say “Thank you” and “This is the
school we have been looking for for eight years.”
C.G. – Manus Academy Parent
My son's experience
has been overwhelmingly positive. He works every
day on his problem areas until he masters them
and he has moved forward academically without
getting bored or frustrated. At Manus Academy,
students who fell through the cracks elsewhere
can now learn and succeed.

Manus Academy
Manus Academy is a private school accredited
by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools (SACS) and AdvancED, the parent company
of SACS. The teacher-student ratio ranges from
one-to-one to six-to-one. This flexible ratio
is lower than that of many other schools and
is one that allows us to customize instruction
to match each student’s needs.
Depending on what is most appropriate, students
may work at the standard pace of one grade level
per year or at a slower or faster pace.
Middle School - 4th
- 8th Grade
Students enrolled in our middle school work
in our carefully designed curricula in English,
social studies, science and communication skills.
During these course periods, they typically
work in a larger group of five other students,
where group interaction is desirable. They learn
basic skills, such as language, reading, spelling,
writing and math skills, in an individual or
very small group setting where intensive coaching
and teacher interaction is most effective.

High School
High school students may work toward a diploma
in one of two courses of study: college preparatory
or basic.
Students planning to attend a four-year university
or college upon graduation follow the college
preparatory course. These students take the
courses that most colleges require, such as
four units of English, two or three units of
foreign language, three units of science, four
units of math and two units of social studies.
If students are weak in a basic skill, such
as in reading, spelling, written expression
or math, their programs may include intensive
and accredited remedial work for a semester
or two.
Students planning to enroll in a community college
or vocational program upon graduation take the
basic course of study. This course of study
includes standard high school subjects with
the exception of foreign language and higher-level
math and science. It emphasizes academic skills
needed for everyday living and future employment,
such as practical English, consumer math, everyday
science, health, physical fitness, career study,
individual job coaching and intensive remedial
work in basic language, reading, writing and
math skills.

School Hours
Students attend school from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m., Monday through Friday. Some high school
students working toward their diploma work individually
with a teacher or attend small classes of one
to three other students between 2:00 p.m. and
5:30 p.m.
Families may also arrange for additional tutoring
after school. There, the student meets individually
with a tutor during regularly scheduled times
to work further on a course or to build basic
reading, writing, spelling and/or math skills.
Regular Communication with Parents
Our teaching staff reviews each student’s progress
with parents during regularly scheduled, fifteen
minute, bi-weekly communications and sometimes
briefly before or after the school day. These
frequent communications allow us to evaluate
the effectiveness of the instructional program,
which is closely monitored and regularly updated
as needed.
Every spring, the Manus Academy staff re-evaluates
all middle school students who have not received
an evaluation within the past ten months and
all ninth and eleventh graders. Following these
assessments, and informal assessments for tenth
graders, the instructors meet with parents and,
together, they discuss future educational plans
for each student.
