Manus Academy is a very caring and nurturing place. Instead of
seeing a collection of problems to be fixed, the staff accepts each student as
an individual endowed with his or her own special gifts.
S.L. - Manus Academy Parent
My son's experience has been overwhelmingly positive. He works every day on his
problem areas until he masters them and he has moved forward academically
without getting bored or frustrated. At Manus Academy, students who fell
through the cracks elsewhere can now learn and succeed.

Manus Academy
Manus Academy is a private school accredited by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Commission on International and
Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). The teacher-student ratio is one to five
with assistants providing additional one-to-one tutoring. This teacher-student
ratio is lower than that of many other schools and is one that allows us
to customize instruction to match each student's needs.
Students work in small groups, one-on-one with the teacher and independently
under the teacher's supervision. Depending on what is most appropriate,
students may work at the standard pace of one grade level per year or at a
slower or faster pace.
Middle School - 4th - 8th
Grade
Students work with our carefully designed curriculum in English, math, science
and social studies. They also work with a teacher individually and intensively
building basic skills, such as language, reading, handwriting, spelling,
written expression and math.
High School
Students may work towards a diploma in one of three courses of study: college
preparatory, basic and occupational. Students planning to attend a four-year
university or college upon graduation follow the college preparatory course.
Students planning to enroll in a community college or vocational program may
take either the basic or college preparatory course of study, depending on
which is the most appropriate. The basic course of study includes standard high
school subjects with the exception of foreign language and higher-level math
and science.
Students who plan to enter the workforce or enroll in a vocational program
after high school may follow the occupational course of study. Students learn
academic skills they'll need for everyday living and future employment (e.g.
practical English, consumer math, everyday science). The occupational course of
study also offers life skills training, job and career study, individual job
coaching and intensive remedial work in basic language, reading, writing and
math skills.
Social and Academic Skills Enrichment
Middle grade students can add value and richness to their regular academic
schedule with our social and academic skills enrichment, which operates from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. In this program, students
learn how to interact successfully with other students as they participate in
such activities as drama, art, physical education, food preparation and lunch.
School Hours
Students attend school from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or
1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Students attending
our social and academic enrichment program stay through 3:00 p.m., Monday
through Thursday. Families may also arrange for additional tutoring after
school. There, the student meets individually with a tutor during regularly
scheduled times to work further on a course or to build basic reading, writing,
spelling and/or math skills.
Regular Communication with Parents
Our teaching staff reviews each student's progress with parents during
regularly scheduled, fifteen minute, bi-weekly phone conferences, during
quarterly conferences and sometimes briefly before and after the school day.
These frequent communications allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the
instructional program, which is regularly updated as needed.
Every spring, Manus Academy re-evaluates each student's educational skills,
either formally or informally, depending on which is most appropriate.
Following this assessment, the instructor meets with the parents and, together,
they discuss future educational plans for the student.
