Our mission: to help pre-school aged children build key developmental skills.
Assessment and Consultation

Parents meet with our education director to share information and review previous evaluations the child may have received from other healthcare or educational providers. If we determine that we can help, the education director works individually with the child to determine the starting points of a customized instructional program.

The education director determines the child’s current skills in these key areas of development:

Gross motor skills

  • strength and endurance
  • bilateral integration and sequencing
  • playground and sports activities
  • rhythm and timing

  • grasping pencils and crayons
  • drawing
  • handwriting

Organizing and integrating the senses for use
  • one’s sense of movement and balance (vestibular)
  • deep pressure touch (proprioceptive)
  • light touch (tactile)
  • vision
  • hearing and listening
  • body awareness
  • ability to think about then perform a motor task

Language
  • developing sound awareness
  • labeling nouns, behaviors and attributes
  • following directions and performing sequences
  • understanding and speaking in phrases and sentences
  • using language to express needs and wants

Regulating behavior (includes applied behavioral analysis - ABA)
  • expressing physical states, feelings and wants
  • developing social skills
  • controlling emotional responses
  • understanding and complying with rules and directions

Educational readiness skills
  • prerequisite skills for reading
  • prerequisite skills for handwriting and spelling
  • prerequisite skills for math

After the evaluation, the director meets with the parents to discuss the results and develop an effective instructional program. If the child attends a preschool in addition to our morning tutorial program, the director or the student's teacher at The Cyzner Institute may also communicate with the school staff to coordinate plans among the parents, school and The Cyzner Institute .

If another professional has recently administered a diagnostic evaluation, we use the findings of that evaluation and the results of a brief assessment to design the child’s training goals.
